About Your Surgery

We take pride in the way we treat our patients and use multiple methods of anesthesia (local anesthesia with nitrous oxide and/or IV sedation). Prior to a scheduled procedure, we perform a comprehensive medical evaluation and provide a customized treatment plan that best suits your needs. Below are general guidelines for each anesthesia method. Please refer to your pre-operative instructions for specific information on how to prepare for your surgery appointment.

For local anesthesia (numbing medication) or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) patients:

  • You may eat normally prior to your scheduled surgery, however, we recommend a light meal. You may want to avoid dairy products when having nitrous oxide.

For IV Sedation Patients:

**Do not eat or drink anything for eight (8) hours prior to surgery**

  • Hydrate the day prior to your procedure to avoid dehydration.
  • Brush your teeth before surgery. Wear loose fitting and comfortable clothing so that we may place monitors and an IV prior to surgery. Contact lenses and any dentures should be removed prior to surgery.
  • A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, drive the patient home, and stay with the patient for the remainder of the day of surgery to assist with after care.
  • Do not make any important decisions, operate heavy machinery, or drive a car for at least 24 hours after surgery.
