Born in Scotland, Dr. Ferguson grew up in Ontario, Canada. Higher education gave him the opportunity to live in Utah, Kentucky, and California before settling in Richmond to be close to family.
Even while enjoying quality time with his wife, Cindi, and their eight young children, and having a thriving oral surgery practice, Dr. Ferguson is still able to find opportunities to volunteer at his church, play table tennis, and run. “But family is what it’s all about; every kid is unique,” he states emphatically. “I love vacationing together, playing together, and just hanging out together. At the end of the day, it’s what you’re left with.” When asked how he balances his busy professional life with his family life, he laughs, while admitting, “Some days I don’t!”
Dr. Ferguson has completed both a half triathlon and full marathon. “The marathon was a goal my wife and I were able to train for and achieve together. Something to check off our bucket list,” he adds with a smile.
Perhaps being able to accomplish all that he does in a given day can be explained by his statement, “I have a wonderful, supportive wife! I’m also good at routines, and I like sticking to a schedule. When I first considered running the marathon, I didn’t think I had the training time. But by committing to a training schedule, little by little, I did it! I also like to joke around and keep a good sense of humor about things,” he adds. “The surgery environment can be intense, but the work day is more pleasant for everyone when you can laugh a little.”
