Meet Dr. Michael “Mike” Miller

It could be said that many of Dr. Miller’s patients would describe that what he has achieved for them is nothing short of “magic.” Could that be because amateur magician is one of his many avocations? His magical skills are appreciated by both patients and staff, as he works with deftness with both surgical instruments as well as a deck of cards!Born in Miami, FL, Dr. Miller grew up in South Florida and Lynchburg, VA. He and his wife, Dr. Benita Miller, an RVA periodontist, have a daughter Anne, who recently graduated from Duke University having majored in Evolutionary Anthropology with a minor in Human Development.

Dr. Miller was honored to serve as President of the Southeastern Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons from May 2014-May 2015. The society contributes to the public welfare through advancement of the specialty of oral & maxillofacial surgery.

Fun Facts

Favorite app

“Essential Tennis” is my favorite tennis instructional app. “I’m addicted to tennis and always want to improve. Now if I could only keep the body from breaking down!” he says with a smile. However, I also love “Anytune,” which is great for learning guitar parts for any song (at slow speed!)!

If he weren’t an oral surgeon

He would choose to be a musician. He grew up playing music and jokes about living vicariously through his brother, who has been a professional keyboard player and singer. “I never get tired of playing an instrument (guitar, keyboard or drums), learning a new song, or practicing to develop ‘muscle memory’ so that it just comes naturally. But at this stage in life, it’s all about finding the time to get to play,” he explains, alluding to his busy professional schedule.
